ABIS II Surface Inspection Technology
The surface quality of 'Body in White' panels in the automotive industry is critical to manufacturer's manufacturing good quality vehicles.
ABIS II is used to detect dents, bumps, sink marks, waviness, constrictions, scratches, cracks, adhesive residues, dust and dirt on 'Body on White' panels. Eliminating the defects as early as possible greatly reduces expensive re-work costs further down the vehicle build process. Installed in or near the 'press shop', the ABIS II can greatly reduce plant operating costs.
Traditional surface inspection systems using light tables and 'oil stones' can be very subjective and time consuming with expensive associated labour costs.
ABIS II eliminates this subjective verification by providing a very fast, automated method of measurement by 'curvature' comparison. The ABIS II sensor scans the panel and the software analyses the curvature and provides a report to the operator detailing the category and location of any defects.
The 'acceptance criterion' used to determine which parts are acceptable / border line / rejected are based on information provided by the companies inspectors thus maintaining 'ownership'.
