Comet IV 2M 3D-Digitizing System - Typical Applications
The Comet sensors from Steinbichler Optotechnik are designed based on many years of experience and expertise in optical co-ordinate measurement. Established as the leading digitizing systems, they enjoy widespread use World Wide. Comet IV represents the fourth sensor generation: A completely new, technologically revolutionary concept which has resulted in the optimum system solution for current and future measuring tasks. The systems meet all requirements placed on an industry-compliant measuring system. Comet IV offers high flexibility and modularity combined with excellent data accuracy. Through the use of cutting edge optical technologies and materials, the sensor, which can be used in all sectors of industry, sets new standards in 3D digitizing.
- Flexibility through different fields of view
With only a few steps and in a matter of minutes, the user can adjust the system to a new field of view and thus optimally customize it for the measuring task. The sensor features a fully modular structure and offers extension options for fields of view from 100 to 2500 mm in size. Innovations with regard to the camera technology (4-6-8 megapixels) have also been taken into account in the sensor concept.
- Highest data quality
The great stability of the mechanical construction and extreme rigidity of the CFRP (Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic) beam, which was designed taking FEM (Finite Element Method) simulation calculations into account, as well as the optics developed specifically for the Comet IV
sensor guarantee extremely high measurement accuracy. In addition, thermal effects are eliminated through the powerful external xenon light source which is connected via an optical
fibre.
- Individual positioning
The Comet IV sensor can easily be positioned using different tripods. This allows the quick and easy customization to the measuring task on hand.
- Reliability
The data transmission between the sensor and the computer is performed via CANbus and GigaBit Ethernet. This safeguards the reliable functioning of the device even in an industrial environment. Self-diagnosis options are additionally available to ensure the sensor is functioning correctly.
- Fast data acquisition
Comet IV convinces through short measuring times. The intelligent point decimation feature has the advantage that even large 3D point sets can be acquired and processed very quickly, without information loss.
- Mobility
Eliminating the need for a conventional computer configuration, the system can also be run on a standard notebook. It is therefore excellently suited for mobile use. Regardless of the object size, location or ambient conditions, the user can easily transport the system to the current measuring point and customize it for the measuring task.
- Quality control / inspection
The high precision and reliability of the hardware and software meet increasing quality requirements in development and production. The sensor system is optimally tailored to the Cometinspect inspection software, resulting in an easy-to-use high quality inspection tool.
- Tool and mould making
The fast, easy and precise scanning with Comet IV forms the basis for short iteration cycles in tool optimization. When proven tools fail due to breakage, they can be reproduced exactly by milling based on the previously generated high-quality archived STL mesh.
- Design
With a few measuring images taken in high speed mode, design models can be completely 3D digitized, very quickly.
- Rapid prototyping (milling)
With its high measurement accuracy and the excellent data quality of the generated STL mesh, Comet IV provides the basis for excellent milling results.
- Reverse engineering
The high resolution and the quality of the point cloud generated by Comet IV forms the basis for the subsequent creation of CAD data. Thanks to the flexibility of the system, different object sizes and surfaces can be processed without time-consuming preparations.
