Optical Surface Inspection Systems - ABIS II
The surface quality of a product - particularly in the automotive industry - constitutes an important criterion for the customer and is generally seen in close relation to the quality of the overall vehicle. Even inevitable defects at the early production stages prior to painting (e.g. in the press shop or body shop) may cause defects such as dents, bumps, sink marks, etc. These may not be visible to the naked eye while the vehicle is still unpainted. On a high-gloss paint surface, however, even the slightest irregularities are seen with angled incident light. The intense competition among manufacturers demands an increase in the surface quality in conjunction with continuously decreasing production costs.
The ‘target’, products free from defects is time-consuming and labour-intensive to achieve for manufacturers. It is not 100 % possible through conventional methods and defects that have gone unnoticed during the production process generate very high rework costs. Now, the early and complete detection of surface defects with the highly effective ABIS II surface inspection system opens up new boundaries in quality assurance.
ABIS II sets standards - Independently, offline or inline operation, the measuring system is able to identify all relevant types of defect: dents, bumps, sink marks, pits, waviness, constrictions and cracks are quickly and reliably detected at a high resolution and then evaluated. Regardless of the ambient lighting conditions, the sensor supplies high-precision measurement results.
The system´s expandability offers a great advantage to the user: ABIS II can be extended individually from the ABIS II Interactive offline configuration through to the full system integration into the production area, thereby providing extremely flexible application possibilities. If the evaluation time is to be reduced, the system can be scaled, i.e. supplemented by additional computers.
The ABIS II software enables users to enter individual defect characteristics and severity levels based on the auditor´s experiences. This allows and includes the experience of the quality assurance staff directly into the system´s classification and tolerance criteria, which in turn can be customized to the individuals production site. ABIS II takes the lead among the currently available surface inspection systems.
